Mastering the Mental Game Workshops
Introduction to the Mental Game: Identifying Your Mental Barriers This workshop will help you understand the role of "the mental game" with respect to your golf performance. It is for golfers of all playing levels and abilities and is held indoors, in a classroom style setting.
- Take a "golf personality profile" - and learn how your personality off the course can impact the way you play the game on the course.
- Identify your mental strengths and weaknesses, while learning effective strategies and techniques to improve the way you think your way around the golf course.
- Learn how to better manage your attitudes and emotions - decreasing anxiety and frustration - while increasing your levels of confidence, concentration, and focus!
Developing Your Sensory Modes: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic ("Feel")
Have you ever wondered why your body is not always able to respond to the directions you give it when you swing a golf club?
Do you ever ask yourself "What happened?" after striking a putt or a chip shot much harder or much softer than you actually intended?
Would you like to improve your ability to visualize what you want to do with a shot, or perhaps reduce the constant chatter in your head telling you what you don't want to do?
This workshop utilizes the theories of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a multipurpose method of communication that is used to identify how people can actually regulate all types of behavior with their minds. It is one of the most useful and powerful psychological tools for helping people change - in the case of golf, how they think out on the course and how they swing a golf club - using both verbal and nonverbal styles of communication.
Here's how NLP applies itself to golf... In a span of about two seconds, you unconsciously process numerous pieces of sensory information as you swing a golf club. This programmed information fires immediately before you make the motion required to hit a drive, pitch a ball over a sand trap, or strike a lengthy putt.
While participating in this workshop, you will take part in specific exercises on the practice range that will give you a better understanding of how your golfing mind works and how to effectively reprogram your mind to maintain only positive, productive swing thoughts and hit better golf shots.
This workshop is held outdoors, on the private grass teaching tiers of the practice range.
- Understand the role that your sensory modes - visual, auditory, and feel - play in your golf performance.
- Identify your dominant sensory mode, and participate in specific exercises to develop it so that it can help you maximize your performance on the course.
- Improve your visualization skills, learn how to effectively manage the thoughts that run through your mind during your swing, and develop a better sense of "feel" as you learn how to send signals or "cues" to your body so that it will swing the club the way you desire.
- Learn how to strengthen your non-dominant modes while increasing your levels of confidence, concentration, and focus!
Mastering Focus & Concentration
Do you experience difficulties maintaining proper focus and concentration for an entire round?
Do negative thoughts (like what you don't want to have go wrong in your swing or where you don't want to hit the ball) enter your mind during the worst possible moments - during your swing?
Are you unable to take advantage of those periods of time, sometimes lengthy, in between shots?
It has been said that the optimal state of concentration while performing a task is to be thinking of absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, this is extremely difficult to accomplish, so the next best state of concentration would be to think of only one thing. Whether it is feeling a sense of balance, staring at the back of your golf ball, or imagining your ball flying toward your target, developing the ability to focus on something specific during each swing and maintain concentration in between shots is paramount to good golf.
While participating in this workshop, you will take part in specific concentration-building exercises on the practice range that will teach you how to reduce distractions and maintain focus and concentration, while maximizing your enjoyment of the game.
This workshop is held outdoors, on the private grass teaching tiers of the practice range.
- Understand how the mood or attitude you bring to the course on a particular day can effect the quality of your play.
- Learn how to better concentrate on the shot at hand, leaving behind thoughts of prior shots or future scores.
- Develop specific cues that will trigger better concentration for each and every shot you take out on the course, as well as on the practice tee.
- Learn how to take advantage of the time in between shots, resulting in a state of mind that is more prepared and focused when it is time to step up to your next shot.
Enjoy the game more and play better golf! (All workshops are for players of all skill levels and abilities.)
